The last 2 visits came and went uneventfully which is what we want! Honestly these appointments are a little anti-climactic when you consider all we have to go through to get from Chicago to California. All of the planning, expenses, time off work, etc. But the goal is for the appointments themselves to be easy. No issues, no reactions… so far it’s all going smoothly!
Visit 3 was January 11-12, 2022. Jacob and I flew out the day before his first appointment. We’ve decided we’re going to try to not fly the day of any longer if we can avoid. While I want to make these trips as short as possible, I also don’t want the anxiety of possible flight delays. These trips take too much planning to risk missing an appointment!
At appointment 1, Jacob challenged the 3 foods that he’d been dosing at home for the previous 8 weeks: kidney bean, flax seed, and walnut. He also had a skin prick test to evaluate whether he’ll need SLIT (sublingual immunotherapy) for his environmental allergies. Dr. R will analyze his results and determine if we need to start SLIT.

The following morning he introduced his 3 new foods which would be a 10 week cycle: quail egg yolk, navy bean, and pumpkin seed. It’s crazy for us to think he’s now eating a type of egg yolk every day! He’d never had any exposure to egg in his life!
His plan has him working through yolks in the following order: quail, duck, hen. Then circling back to egg whites in that same sequence. He is anaphylactic to the hen egg. So the idea is that introducing the similar proteins in the quail and duck eggs will desensitize his body enough to tolerate the hen egg.
The introductions went smoothly!!

As far as logistics go, we stayed at the Staybridge in Irvine again. I’ve written about our travel specifics in depth in the previous blog posts so feel free to go back and check that out.
This time around we flew in and out of LAX. It wasn’t as easy breezy as the Long Beach Airport but we managed!
We had some pool time, our customary visit to Sensitive Sweets, and of course In and Out Burger! We also visited the Columbia Memorial Space Center in Downy. It was cute but very very small and unfortunately there really wasn’t much to do.

Overall a great trip!
