About 2 years ago, I found myself looking into the Tolerance Induction Program at the SoCal Food Allergy Institute. I first heard about it in a Facebook group for food allergies and I was intrigued.
I remember reading a post from a mom who wanted to pursue treatment, but she was concerned about the cost. Someone in the comments suggested that she start a GoFundMe. She said something like “friends and family always ask how they can help, what they can do”. This would be a tangible way for them to help you!
Those words stuck with me! They resonated. I never forgot that thread.
Fast forward to February 2021 when we found ourselves in the unexpected position to accept a spot in the program, and also had huge financial concerns. That’s exactly what we chose to do. We put ourselves out there and appealed to our tribe. And boy did they come through! We were (and still are) absolutely shocked and humbled by the response. By the love and support shown for Jacob.
It’s because of our tribe that we are able to do this at this stage in our lives!!! Within 2 days were able to raise enough money to secure our spot in treatment. You all helped us get our foot in the door and we will be forever grateful. Now we look ahead prepare for the next few years of treatment. Every plan is individual but we expect to be in treatment for no less than 3 years!
